Michael Rosen's We're Going on a Bear Hunt is hugely popular in our household. Take away one letter and you have an excruciatingly funny picture book for adults: We're Going on a Bar Hunt.
You know the scenario, all dressed up and ready to go out with friends:
"We're going on a bar hunt.
We're going to find a cool one.
The Babysitter's booked...
We're not old!"
En route the two couples find an offie, a gastro pub, a cocktail bar, a club and then ... a bear! And in the manner of the original they race back through each scenario to reach the haven of home.
We're Going on a Bar Hunt will resonate with parents – whatever ages their children are. Josie Lloyd and Emlyn Rees' parody together with Gillian Johnson's fabulous illustrations make for a perfect book summing up the trials and tribulations of a rare night out for parents.
The book makes a great gift – leave it around for the babysitter to read and she might be a bit more understanding when you stagger in pretending to be sober!
